Herman was someone's riding donkey and is sweet as can be. He is older and I guess they didn't want him any longer. He came malnourished and has been a little harder to put weight on due to his age. Herman is an amazing donkey that really could use a virtual adopter to love him.

Nuts is super sweet and came to us after an elderly lady had to sell her home. She loved him dearly and wanted him to have the best life here at the rescue. He love cookies and is very friendly to everyone that comes around.

Benny is a mini hinny who is full of life and attitude. Benny loves humans, especially kids, but is ruthless around the other animals when the cookies come out. He has the most unique sound of all the animals here. If you are visiting and you hear what sounds like a young child screaming in fear, that is Benny

Annie is a young mammoth donkey who was recently diagnosed with Cushings disease. As a result, she has to take daily medication that costs about $150/month. She is the sweetest girl and just loves humans who want to spend time with her. Annie came to us from a breeder who sells his donkeys at auction. We attempt to intercept them to prevent the kill pen from getting them, and Annie and her sister Tonya were the most recent we got.

Studly is our resident dwarf mini horse. He was an auction rescue and was skinny with all of his hair shaved off. He was a tiny horse with a large attitude. Studley put on weight but then began developing recurrent sinus infections. We treated them with antibiotics, they would go away, but then they returned ...

Wilbur is a very special donkey. Wilbur was a donkey I adopted from Pam at Blue Haven as a buddy for my first rescue, Waffles. By adopting Wilbur, I made friends with Pam, who taught me all about auctions, kill pens, the donkey skin trade, and abuse. Pam has been a wonderful mentor and continues to be as well. Wilbur is a very special boy who was at the State Fair and always makes his appearance when visitors are around. He is a sweet boy.

Glenn is a very sweet boy who came unhandled and with some of the worst feet I have seen. His feet were so long they curled 2x and pointed outward rather than down. You may have seen the video Glenn's story where we trimmed the feet 2 separate times and how much better he walks. Glenn was also malnourished and is currently getting extra to supplement his weight gain.

Fred came to us from a kill pen with awful feet and skinny. He is the sweetest old guy who is a complete sweetheart. Fred can be let out of his area to graze on grass and roam and will come right back in the evening. He is separated from most of the others due to his poor body condition as we try to put weight on him. Gaining weight has been difficult for Fred but I think we are making decent progress.

Gomer is an old guy who was brought to auction by a trader. He was severely malnourished and had lice and worms. He has gained weight but given his age, it is slow going. He is a sanctuary donkey here at the rescue. Gomer is a special and super sweet boy who will stand all day long for some attention.

Judy is probably the most abused donkey that we had come through the rescue. She came with a halter embedded in her head and flesh that smelled like roadkill. She had awful unkept hooves and was unhandled. We got her medical issues cared for and now she is allowing touch. Judy may be here for awhile due to her fear of most humans, so we are hoping to find a sponsor to help with her care.

Many of you followed Jerico's journey from injury to recovery. He dislocated his elbow while out in the field, and the first vet we saw recommended euthanasia. However, I believed he still had a chance, so I brought him home, provided him with hydration, and started his physical therapy. Since it was challenging to handle everything alone, I decided to take him to MU, where they created hobbles and a brace for him. Jerico has formed a strong bond with that mom and baby. 

Jack is the largest donkey here. He was an owner surrender after life turned upside down for her. He came from a fantastic home and was loved. You may know Jack as the star of our kissing booth at events. He definitely makes his presence known in the videos. Jack is a resident here as well.

Nacho is a sweet boy that many people know and love from our events and the State Fair. He is older and is bonded with his older buddies. He is not a rescue and came from a wonderful home who had life changes and wanted him to have the best care. Nacho is a resident here with his buddies and will continue to enjoy his freedom and cookies here at the rescue.

Sugar is a very sweet older gal who you may recognize as the white donkey who runs with the buggy in the field. She is incredibly sweet and will stay with you all day if you will just pet her. She came to us with her friends after her owners got older and needed to move to town.

Millie ( the donkey ) - You may recognize Millie from our new shirt design. She is such a sweet girl and has a face that forces you to laugh. She came to us with her friends after her owners got older and needed to move to town. Millie is very cookie motivated and is seen in many pictures standing by the buggy waiting for her cookie.

Sophie is an older donkey who is one of the first to the buggy at treat time. You may recognize her as the one in the pictures whose mouth is wide open as she approaches. Sophie came to us with her friends after her owners got older and needed to move to town. She is a sweet girl and loves to be hugged and loved on, especially if cookies are involved.

Elmer is an old small mammoth donkey who was cast aside at the kill pen in Louisiana. His family was taken from him and he was reportedly standing in the rain for 3 days in the spot where they had all been together. Elmer was very skinny and sad when he arrived. It took him a long while to find a friend, and he still frequently can be found hanging out alone. Elmer is sweet and loving.

Danny, a young mini horse, was rescued from a kill pen in Oklahoma with a partially amputated leg. Initially skinny and hobbling, he rode home in the back seat of a truck and discovered his love for animal crackers. At MU, Dr. Keegan and Hanger Clinic fitted Danny with a prosthetic leg, restoring his mobility and allowing him to run freely. Due to his disability, Danny is a permanent resident and is seeking a sponsor.

Meet Orville, "The Old Man in the Field." Arriving in rough shape with awful feet and worm infestations, he used to stand alone, staring into space. Thanks to Kendra’s magic touch and our dedicated care, Orville is improving but still needs help with his hooves. ​Billy Jack joined Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue in April after being saved from a kill pen auction, arriving in a heart-wrenching state—young, starved, and fragile, yet gentle and sweet. Named in memory of a beloved supporter’s late husband, Billy Jack has shown remarkable resilience and strength, gradually transforming from skin and bones to a healthier, thriving donkey. Ajax is a sweet mini who arrived at Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue in November of last year. His previous owner passed away, and although a very nice family cared for him temporarily, the property was sold, and Ajax needed a new home. Welcomed warmly by TicToc, Rubix Cube, and other friendly donkeys who share a fence with him, Ajax has been happily exploring his new territory and enjoying the pastures ever since!
