Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue

This adoption agreement, by the Adopter and between Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue, a non-profit Donkey Rescue, and the adopter is for the placement of a donkey in the care of the adopter under the following terms:

1. The adopter understands that owning a donkey comes with routine and as-needed medical care. Donkey will require a farrier routinely, usually every 6-8 weeks, and at minimum yearly dental care.

2. Realize that Peaceful Pastures has limited knowledge regarding the history, habits, and behaviors of the donkeys. While we spend ample time socializing them and regaining their trust in humans, how they react to new situations is unknown to us.

3. Donkeys can be dangerous and any donkey adopted from us may have been abused, neglected, and starved. This history may require extra socialization and work on the part of the adopter to form a bond. Peaceful Pastures aren't responsible for accidents or safety to the donkeys/mules/horses or adopters.

4. The adopter agrees that the donkey will not be used for breeding purposes.

5. The adopter must board the donkey at the agreed-upon facility and notify Peaceful Pastures if they need to move it. Failure to do so is seen as abandonment and a breach of contract, allowing Peaceful Pastures to repossess the donkey without compensation to the adopter.

6. If the adopter is unable to care for the donkey, he/she/they agree to contact Peaceful Pastures. Under no circumstances is the donkey to be sold, traded, given away, abandoned, placed with another rescue, or sent to an auction or kill pen.

7. The adopted donkey will be housed in an environment with secure fencing, access to clean water, fed daily (hay, grain, grass), and have access to a lean-to or barn/stall during inclement weather. The adopter agrees to adequately care for the adopted donkey that is in their possession.

8. The rights and obligations of the Agreement are not assignable by either party except upon written and signed agreement of the parties. Failure to follow this adoption contract may result in a breach of adoption, repossession of the donkey, and/or a fine of no less than $500.

9. The adopter agrees to pay an adoption fee of $300 per horse/mule or $400 per donkey prior to taking the donkey from the premises. This adoption fee is by no means a reflection of what the rescue put into the animal to rehabilitate and prepare for adoption but will be used to help offset the costs and contribute to operational costs.

10. I am 18 years of age or older and have provided identification showing my present address, and I own my home or have landlord consent to adopt this animal.

11. I agree to provide this animal with adequate food and fresh water, shelter from the elements, daily exercise, and kind treatment at all times.

12. I agree to obey any and all animal regulations governing the area in which I live and I agree to provide the animal with all recommended veterinary care and annual vaccinations. I further agree to provide the animal with prompt veterinary care if it becomes ill or injured.

Failure to adhere to this contract is cause for Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue to take possession of the animal.
