What is Ejiao Act H.R 6021?

Ejiao H.R 6021 is legislation aimed at addressing growing concerns about the manufacturing and distribution of Ejiao, a gelatin derived from boiling donkey hides, which is utilized in traditional Chinese medicine and cosmetics. Soaring demand for this product in recent years has destroyed China's donkey population and is now threatening donkey populations all over the world. It has sparked a vicious global commerce that causes immense misery to the animals involved and has a significant impact on communities that rely on donkeys. Donkeys are taken, transported miles without food or water, and then murdered in brutal and unhygienic conditions.

History of Ejiao

Ejiao, a traditional Chinese medicine component, has a long history dating back many years. It is derived from donkey skin and has long been adored for its alleged health advantages, which include increasing vitality, nourishing the blood, and improving overall well-being.

Historically, Ejiao has been used in a variety of medicines and tonics, appreciated for its reputed capacity to treat a wide range of health issues, including anemia, weariness, menstrual irregularities, and aged skin. Its use is well entrenched in traditional Chinese medicine, where it is frequently added into formulations to promote overall health and vigor

However, the growing demand for Ejiao in recent years has raised serious worries about its impact on donkey populations worldwide. Ejiao production requires a huge number of donkeys, which raises concerns about overexploitation, animal welfare, and sustainability.

The demand for Ejiao has imperiled donkey populations in a variety of locales, leading to overhunting, illegal selling, and harsh treatment. As a result, efforts to regulate the Ejiao industry and ensure sustainable sourcing processes have gained traction.

Legislative initiatives, such as Ejiao's H.R 6021, seek to address these problems by establishing more strict rules and monitoring. Initiatives such as Ejiao H.R 6021 aim to mitigate the negative consequences of Ejiao production while ensuring the long-term well-being of donkey populations by promoting sustainable alternatives and donkey welfare protection.
