The Heart and Soul of Peaceful Pastures: Meet the Dedicated Team Behind the Rescue

At Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue, our mission to rescue and rehabilitate abused and neglected donkeys is made possible by the hard work and dedication of our incredible team. Each member brings unique skills, expertise, and a deep passion for animal welfare. In this blog post, we want to introduce you to the individuals who are the heart and soul of our organization.

Beth Hakala, Executive Director

Beth Hakala, our Executive Director, is the driving force behind Peaceful Pastures. With a background in the military and a deep love for animals, Beth founded the organization in 2021. She has made rescuing donkeys her life's mission and serves as the primary caregiver for all the donkeys. Despite limited help, Beth's unwavering commitment ensures the smooth running of the organization.

Eric Work, Co-Chairman of the Board:

Eric Work, a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the military, serves as the Co-Chairman of the Board. He has been a longtime supporter of Peaceful Pastures and has played a crucial role in its administrative growth. Eric's passion for animals extends beyond donkeys, as he maintains a hobby farm with rescue horses, dogs, cats, and even a pet pig.

Kendra Bench, Co-Chairman of the Board:

Kendra Bench brings a wealth of equine knowledge and expertise to the organization. As a farrier and a student in equine dental school, Kendra's skills are invaluable in ensuring the well-being of the rescued donkeys. Her creativity and dedication make her a fantastic asset to the rescue.

Michael Hakala, Assistant Director: Michael Hakala, one of the founding Board members, is deeply involved in the daily operations and long-term planning of the rescue. He is a hands-on team member, often seen buzzing around on an ATV as he tends to chores and helps build and rebuild areas on the grounds. Michael's efforts contribute to creating safe and effective spaces for the donkeys.

Jan Myers, Director of Adoptions and Member of the Board of Directors

Jan Myers, a newer addition to the Board, has quickly become an invaluable member of the team. As the Director of Adoptions, she plays a crucial role in reviewing and approving adoption applications. Jan's fresh ideas and enthusiasm make her a fantastic addition to the group.

Jake Benson, Board of Directors

Jake Benson, another dedicated member of the Board, brings years of horse expertise to the team. His contributions include designing safe and effective areas on the grounds, such as a hospital and other structures. Jake's innovative thinking led to the creation of the virtual adoption program and the grounds sponsorship program.

The success of Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue is a testament to the passion, dedication, and expertise of our team members. Together, they work tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving homes for abused and neglected donkeys. We are grateful for their unwavering commitment and invite you to join us in supporting their efforts to make a difference in the lives of these incredible animals.
